Anarchists Warn People Not to Park Near Luxury Cars They Want to Torch

An unprecedented statement was published on Thursday by a self-declared Greek Anarchist  group on a website long known for its anarchist content.

The so-called “Anarchist Night Raid Groups” issued a statement in which it claims responsibility for the widespread vehicular arson attacks which took place in Athens on January 20, 2020.

More than twenty cars were set on fire and reduced to ashes that night in different parts of the Greek capital.

”Our political choice to be an active part of the subversive violence that has spread against luxury cars in Attica has multiple goals. It is embedded in a broader strategy of retaliation against the repressive campaign of the state,” the group’s long statement claims.

The screed goes on, later apologizing for the fact that they had also mistakenly torched ”two other vehicles.”

The group claimed that eighteen out of the twenty cars they torched ”were all worth more than 40,000 euros each, and were symbols of wealth and safeguarding of class privileges at the expense of the poor, the socially excluded, and the marginalized of the capitalist society.”

The group went on to make the extraordinary request to members of the public whose cars are not as expensive, not to park near luxury cars in the future!

”We would like to urge non-luxurious vehicle owners to avoid parking next to luxury vehicles, thereby facilitating our work,” the surreal statement noted helpfully.

This new spate of arson — and the later statement — shows the disturbing depth of Greece’s continuing problem with lawlessness, since some people feel they have the right to claim whatever they want and then destroy private property in the name of social justice.
