New Greek Diving Park to Offer Reefs, Shipwrecks to Explore

New Diving Park in Crete

A project to create a new diving park in Crete, extending over an area of about 60,702 square meters (15 acres), has received official backing.

The Diving Park in the marine area of Ormos Bros Gialos, Apokoronas, Chania will be managed by the Municipality of Apokoronas. It will include different artificial reefs as well as two shipwrecks.

Different diving areas and routes will be separated by surface floating points so that the park can host many groups of visitors at the same time.

The first route, about 370 meters long (1,213 ft.) and 20 meters deep (65 ft.), will explore

A second route — at the same depth but a few meters shorter — will take visitors to explore the second wreck as well as eight different reefs. There will also be a much shorter route, nearly 250 meters long (820 ft.).

The Diving Park service will have its base at the ports around the area, among them Georgioupoli, Almirida, Kalives and Bros Gialos.
