As the media continues to speculate over the destination for the wedding of Hollywood stars Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux, Crete looks like it could be a winner after Jennifer was said to have been looking at wedding venues on the Greek island.

Greece is a popular destination for island weddings and the former star of the U.S TV show Friends was allegedly scouting for venues during a recent visit to Crete. Jennifer’s cousin, Antonis Anastassakis, told a Greek TV station last month that the couple will be getting married abroad in Greece later this year and they are considering the beautiful town of Chania, because it was where her father was born.

The actress has been dating Justin since May last year after they met while making the film Wanderlust. The couple have recently moved from Jennifer’s Manhattan apartments to a large estate in Bel-Air.

One of the venues Jennifer is said to have looked at is the Elounda Beach Hotel in Crete which offers packages for weddings in Greece from $2,300. The package includes a dedicated wedding consultant; a civil or religious ceremony; bridal bouquet, groom’s boutonniere and decoration of the club car; and a bottle of champagne and Greek wedding sweets for the bride and groom.

The luxury waterfront hotel boasts a wide range of accommodation comprising suites and villas, plus upscale facilities including a heated outdoor seawater swimming pool, a fitness centre, five floodlit tennis courts, a shopping arcade and the tranquil Thalaspa Chenot Elounda Beach Spa.

Crete is a fantastic destination for islands weddings with a choice of beautiful venues and settings for romantic ceremonies. These include the Turkish Fort at Aptera with views overlooking Souda Bay; St. Lazarus Chapel, Rethymnon, a charming chapel which dates back to the 14th Century; Koumos Kalives, a beautiful venue which is part of a restaurant near Chania; and a wide selection of golden sandy shores that are fringed by emerald green ocean waters and perfect for idyllic beach weddings.

Destination weddings are on the rise and couples all over the world are heading to exotic destinations such as the Caribbean, Maldives, Seychelles and Hawaii for tropical nuptials. Weddings in the Mediterranean are particularly popular with countries including Greece, Italy, France and Spain among the favourite locations.
