Anarchists Ransack German Consulate in Crete

A group of anarchists has stormed the German consulate in Heraklion, Crete and unfolded a huge banner with slogans against Turkey’s military operation in Syria.

According to reports, the assailants vandalized the office and removed the German flag from the balcony.

They also used the official electronic mail and fax to send messages of solidarity for the people of Afrin to Turkish diplomatic missions in Athens and Berlin, as well as to the office of Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The consulate was empty of people at the time of the attack. No arrests were made.

Critics claim police are turning a blind eye to violent acts by self-proclaimed anarchist groups which have intensified their activities in recent years.

Last week anarchists from across the Balkans rioted in Thessaloniki.

Instances of vandalism against shops, banks and university buildings are now almost a daily routine.
