Aerial dancer Katerina Soldatou presented a performance as part of the project “Greece has soul” and danced while hanging by ropes from the Rio-Antirrio Bridge.

The Rio – Antirio bridge; one of the largest bridges in the world, and Soldatou’s aerial performance video went viral.

The performance was a joint venture between the aerial dancer and the bridge authorities,  based on the 25th of March, 1821 idea with clear symbolism: The building of bridges between Greeks and their joint effort to help the homeland advance. After all, the Rio- Antirrio bridge connects Peloponnese with the rest of Greece.

In this light, a 15 meter-long white fabric along with the blue of the Corinthian Gulf and the blue of Katerina’s bodysuit made the national colors of Greece.

Performance, however, was not limited to the open air, but was extended to the inside of the highest pylon of the Bridge, totaling 300 meters from the sea floor to the top. This choice was the second (also laden with symbolism) part of the script, since for someone on the bottom the only way to see the light is to raise their eyes.
