Nikos Chardalias, the Greek Deputy Minister for Civil Protection, announced on Friday afternoon that the waterfront promenades in two major Greek ports will close in the coming days to stop people from crowding one another while walking.

The waterfront promenade of the city of Volos, as well as the area between South Park (Notio Parko) and Plage Agias in Patras, will no longer be available to the residents of these cities for recreation.

The promenade in Patras will close on Saturday and Volos’ walkway will close on Monday.

They will both stay off-limits for fourteen days.

This comes a just few days after the closure of the picturesque Nea Paralia promenade in Thessaloniki, Greece’s second-largest city, after authorities decided people were walking too closely together.

Additionally, Chardalias announced that the total number people who have tested positive for the coronavirus on the vessel Eleftherios Venizelos, now docked in Piraeus, has grown to 121.
