Greek Athlete Splits Gold in High-Jump Thriller (video)

A Greek athlete has clinched a joint gold in the men’s high jump at the IAFF World U20 Championship.

Antonios Merlos, 19, and Mexico’s Roberto Vilches both jumped 2.23 meters on their first attempts at the event in Tampere, Finland.

Although the two men could have jumped again, the agreed to jointly take the gold, meaning Greece bagged its first title of the games.

Merlos’ previous personal best was 2.15m in the high jump at Clemson, South Carolina in February this year.
