Greek Pensioners Rally Against Austerity

Hundreds of pensioners took to the streets of Athens on Saturday to protest against austerity and falling living standards.

With the motto “We claim what was taken away from us,” pensioners from around the country rallied at Klafthmonos Square. Later the crowd marched towards the Prime Minister’s office on Irodou Attikou street.

Many pensioners are not content with the decision of the Greek government, in consultation with its European partners, earlier in the week to scrap plans to cut state pensions.

They claim that successive cuts have seen their pensions shrink to as much as half of what they were getting before the onset of the crisis.
