Kairios Library – “House of Michael E. Kydonieus”

The Kairios Library – “House of Michael E. Kydonieus” is a neoclassical mansion building that has been fully restored and has been in operation since July 2002. The opening of the building as well as the exhibition “Andros and Cyclades – Maps Exhibition” hosted by the Library In the summer of 2002.
The first exhibition that hosted the Kairiou Library’s annex had the subject: “Andros and Cyclades Maps Exhibition”. It included old maps of Andros and the Cyclades, which belong to various collectors mainly to Margarita Samurka and to the collections of Kaireios. The inauguration was made by the President of the Republic on 17 July 2002. The exhibition was visited by a large number of Andrarians and holidaymakers found in Andros in the summer.
Today the whole building belongs to the Library and serves multiple purposes. On the one hand, it houses some of its collections (rare book publications, unique paintings, old furniture and various other objects of folk culture that at times have donated Andriots), while it has been operating since July 2002 as a showroom. The ambition of the Board of Directors of the Kairiou Library is to make its new possession a roof of important works of our culture while giving the chance to the Andriots to enjoy the rare exhibits and to feel proud of their place.
