Social Media:
This is a new building of the Archaeological Museum of Nisyros , which was built at the expense of Aphrodite Giannidis and was granted in 2001 to the Ministry of Culture.
On the ground floor of the Museum will be exhibited: in the first room the findings from the prehistoric settlement on the volcanic island of Giali, opposite Nisyros, dating to the Celtic Neolithic period (4th millennium BC) Excavations in the southwestern part of the island revealed An intact neolithic building of ellipsoid shape, remains of others, as well as an extensive cemetery.
Then, in a large unified space, the rich finds from the necropolis of the ancient city, which date back to the Archaic, Classical and Hellenistic period, will be exhibited. The earlier burials, dating back to the 7th and 6th c. BC, are adult burns. The few burials in clay piths belong to children. The rich ceramic finds, mainly flat plates decorated with live written representations, belong to a typical rhythm of the Eastern Doris and are attributed to the “Nisyros workshop”, although it seems unlikely to be produced on the island.
