The Archaeological Museum of Poligiros, which is situated on a pine-covered plot in the center of the capital of Halkidiki, was built in 1965 and opened in May 1971. Its exhibition spaces included initially a room where archaeological finds from the excavations in Olynthos, The ancient Akanthos in Ierissos, the sanctuary of Ammon Zeus in Kallithea and other important archaeological sites of Halkidiki.
The new building of the Museum, which was received in October 2016, includes 582 square meters of exhibition space, a periodical showroom, a training room room, a room for maintenance and office workshops, a storage room and a refreshment room.
