The Archaeological Museum of Serres is housed since 1970 in Bezesteni, a closed covered market of the second half of the 15th century. Today’s use of the building came to cover the imperative need of initially gathering and, secondly, the exhibition of the archaeological finds of the city and the prefecture of the prefecture. The original nucleus of the museum’s collection consisted of two small collections. The one, which was housed in the basement of the old Second Gymnasium of Male Serres, consisted mainly of reliefs and inscriptions, while the second one was granted by Georgios Koutantzis.In the years that followed the interest in the region of Macedonia and the consequent development of archaeological research, the museum’s collection was enriched with findings representative of all time periods and from almost the entire prefecture.
