The Nautical Museum of Galaxidi was created in 1928 with the help of the Galaxidiotes, who, with the support of the then president of the community, Efthimios Vlamis, offered heirlooms that had their houses adorned so far (sailing boats, naval objects). So slowly, everyday objects evolved into rare exhibits by composing the naval collection of the first naval museum in Greece. Later on, on the initiative of local volunteers, the Archaeological Collection of the Galaxidi Maritime Museum was established. The only few – just 300 – findings from either the excavations of the 1st Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities or the offerings of the inhabitants cover the Bronze Age until the end of antiquity. Particular exhibits are the two-stranded Early Helladic amphora, the red-figure peki and the glass vase with the inscription “EFFRINO IF YOU GET
The Nautical Museum of Galaxidi took its present form in 2002 when it was named “Galaxidi Nautical and Historical Museum”. It is considered one of the most important museums of the whole country in its kind. The building, housed to this day, was built in 1868-1870, is a neoclassical building and has been completely renovated.
