Palace of the Grand Masters
Social Media:
The Palace of the Grand Masters is probably the most important monument of the Knights Temple. During the Italian restoration, in the 1930s, the building took its present layout, being the command and the residence of the Italian governor. In the hallways the visitor can admire the mosaic floors transported by the Italians, mainly from cosmopolitan and ecclesiastical buildings of Kos, in order to decorate the Palace. Apart from the impressive mosaics, there are also columns and capitals, medieval furniture, mirrors, paintings, candlesticks and other objects that complement the decoration of the imposing building.
A permanent exhibition of the 4th EBA entitled “Rhodes from the Early Christian Period to the Occupation of the Turks (1522)” is housed in part of the palace’s ground floor in consecutive halls. This includes various findings of the excavations carried out in the Medieval City (ceramics, sculptures, wall paintings, portable icons, miniature works, etc.)
