In the city center, on a land granted by the municipality of Didymoteicho, there is the Byzantine Museum of Didymoteicho . Its construction was completed in March 2009.
The main objective of the exhibition is to compose an open, multilevel -as well as bidirectional- experiential frame between the visitor and the many material remains of the historical past of Thrace and Didymoteicho, from the Roman era up to the previous century. For this reason, a multitude of audiovisual means are used as touch screens, video projections, sound effects, interactive applications, with an aim of making the visitors actively participate in the exhibition environment.
The main characteristic is the interactive backlit map, inlaid at the floor of a museum room, that shows the Byzantine Egnatia Avenue and its relationship with Didymoteicho and the main cities of Thrace. It is combined with two touch screens that inform the visitor, through interactive applications, about the importance of Thrace and Egnatia Avenue.
An electronic directory e-book in a touch screen, contains a multitude of information about people that played an important part in the history of Didymoteicho and Thrace. In other touch screens more interactive applications about the city and its history are available, as well as sound documents of narrated descriptions.
