The National Museum of Contemporary Art started operations in 2000. The permanent seat of the Museum is the former Phix brewery in Syngrou Avenue, the reconstruction of which has been completed and is expected to open to the public in 2015.
From September 30, 2008 until May 2015, the National Museum of Contemporary Art was hosted in the Athens Conservatory and earlier hosted at the Athens Concert Hall. He has presented exhibitions and actions in public spaces and other institutions such as the School of Fine Arts.
The collection of the Museum includes important works by Greek and foreign artists such as: Steven Antonakou, Bill Viola, Emily Zashir, Ilia and Emilia Kabakov, Vlassis Kaniaris, Nikos Kessanlis, Giannis Kounellis, Srinis Nesat, Loukas Samaras, Kostas Tsoklis, Chrysa, Dikos Byzantios and others. And is continually enriched.
Among the main founding aims of the Museum are the collection of works of contemporary art, the promotion and presentation of innovative and experimental artistic trends, the promotion of the aesthetic and artistic cultivation of the public and the development of original and scientific research on the history and theory of modern art , Museology, etc.
