The Archaeological Museum of Schimatari was built between 1890 and 1904 and is the oldest of Boeotia. It was set up at the expense of the Archaeological Society to house findings, which were mainly from the Tannaroic necropolis and were collected by meditation and the first excavations of the Archaeological Society. Many funerary columns were what remained of the ancient graves of the early 1870s. The smugglers were the finest clay figurines, the “tannery”, which had been smuggled abroad mainly.
